The Planning Commission is updating the zoning bylaws and wants to hear from you!
The Planning Commission is updating the town’s bylaws to encourage development of year-round housing near the villages while protecting the natural landscape. The goal is to present a draft for town approval at the 2025 Town Meeting. Additionally, the Planning Commission is considering an ordinance to address short-term rentals.
This effort builds on the 2024 Montgomery Town Plan. The plan identified studying bylaw and regulation options to support year-round residential development and address short-term rentals as key priorities. The zoning update & proposed ordinance will build on those goals and reflect other priorities identified by residents.
The Town has received a grant from the Agency of Commerce and Community Development to complete this bylaw update. The Town will be working with the Northwest Regional Planning Commission to conduct public outreach and to draft the regulations.
How to Get Involved

- Residents hopes & vision for the bylaw update
- Expanding the Village 2 Zoning District to support housing growth while protecting the environment of Montgomery
- Potential regulation of short-term rentals

In addition to specific outreach events, the Planning Commission meets each month on the second Tuesday at 6 PM. Agendas and minutes for those meetings can be found on the Montgomery Town Website.
